Govt. Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Post Graduate College, Shivpuri was established in
1961 prior to this it was VTP Degree College established in 1960, which was taken over by
Government of Madhya Pradesh and renamed as Govt. Degree College in July 1961. In the
beginning it offered only undergraduate Classes in Arts discipline. The science stream was
introduced in 1962. Later faculty of Commerce was also introduced. In 1970, the college was
shifted to the present building before this it was running in a famous building well-known as ‘Lal
College’. After the sad demise of popular Member of Parliament Shri Madhavrao Rao Scindia,
the College was dedicated to his benevolent memory and eventually, it was renamed as Govt.
Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Post Graduate College, Shivpuri. The college was affiliated to
Vikram University Ujjain till 1964. At present it is affiliated to Jiwaji University Gwalior. Govt.
Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Post Graduate College, Shivpuri is a multy faculty College with.
Arts, Commerce and Science. The College offers four undergraduate courses and 13 postgraduate
courses. It also offers research facility for Ph.D. in three subjects Economics, Hindi and Political
Science. Govt. Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Post Graduate College, Shivpuri is recognized
research center in three subjects Hindi, Political Science and Economics for Ph.D. by Jiwaji
University Gwalior.
The college has been awarded ‘Lead College’ status of Shivpuri district by Department of
Higher Education, Madhya Pradesh Government Bhopal. This status has given the responsibility
of monitoring to all 11 Government colleges and numerous private colleges the college is also
nodal college for admission in B.Ed. Colleges of the district. It is the center of Bhoj University
Bhopal along with center for distance learning courses as the college is study center of Indira
Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) New Delhi. The NCC and NSS Units of the college
are doing excellent by defining and enduring sense of social service and discipline among the
students. The girl’s wing of NCC is also doing this crucial job very well. Sports facilities in the
college is very helpful in developing personality of the students. There is a well equipped Gym in
the sports complex. The college has its own huge play ground. Our Institution organizes many co-
curricular activities throughout the session which help to all students to be a dynamic and smart
citizen.
The campus of the College, with its looming infrastructure is greatly admired. It creates a
perfect atmosphere for academic drive. Our campus has a ‘Saraswati Udhyan’ which possesses
over flowing serenity, warmth of life, pulse and breathes of youth and full of mesmerizing
greenery.
As the Principal of this six decades old Post Graduate College I am focusing expansion
